When it comes to earning money from your website there is one factor that you can’t do without. The one definite factor that you need is a steady amount of traffic to your website. If no one sees your site, how are you supposed to make money from it? Many sites start and fail rather quickly due to the fact that they have no traffic. While it takes some money to maintain a site that generates income, that is just a fact of life, there are ways to generate low cost website traffic.
Have you ever stopped to think about how the top websites are getting all that traffic? Some of them spend a fortune in advertising campaigns, marketing schemes and gimmicks that draw in visitors. If you have the money to throw into these type of campaigns, you too may be able to quickly achieve the success of these high earning sites.
If you don’t have a huge budget but still want to develop an income earning website, you can do it differently. There are a lot of easy ways to draw traffic to your website without throwing money out hand over fist. Many people who have counted on high cost advertising for a shoddy or useless website have ended up losing their money, so it’s of course very important that what you offer on your site is valuable!
There are three ways that I’m going to share with you to help generate low cost website traffic. Even if only a few of your new visitors end up purchasing a product or contributing to your earnings in some way, if you have enough visitors then you will be earning more than you were without using the methods!
1. Submit Articles to Generate Website Traffic
Article marketing is a great way to gain free traffic; what is article marketing? In brief: the Internet is home to many e-zines, and online encyclopedias which you can often submit articles to for free. To cut costs more and keep your expenses low, write the articles yourself. Many freelance writers will accept projects like this for a small fee, but it is quite possible to do this yourself and save the money.
All you have to do is write an article that is on the same topic as your website niche. Establish yourself as an expert on the topic so that readers will have faith in your knowledge and will be eager to see what else you have in store at your website. Articles that offer tips or guidelines along the same topic as your website are ideal for garnering new visitors.
An author box, or resource box at the end of each article is perfect to lead readers straight to your website. This box should include a brief description of your website and some information about yourself. If you publish a helpful and informative article readers will naturally click the link to visit your site for more.
2. Create a Newsletter
It may seem as if a newsletter would be a lot of hard work due to all the articles and information you would need, but it’s not difficult or expensive. Many writers and websites will provide articles free of charge as long as you include their name or link in your newsletter. This gives you help in creating your initial newsletters and provides your contributors with free advertising, as your income grows you could outsource for content to be written exclusively for your readers.
As your newsletter gains popularity you will build a list of subscribers who you can inform of all the updates and new content you have, directing them back to your site regularly.
3. Participate in Online Social Forums
Free to use, social forums and communities cost you nothing more than time. By sharing your knowledge and a link to your website in online communities, by answering questions or offering an opinion, will attract people to your website. Choosing forums that are within the niche of your website is a great way to advertise for free.
Let others in the community see how much you know about the subject to establish your expertise. As your reputation grows, so will the good reputation of your site, establishing it as a reputable and honest business where your clientele can trust you.
If you concentrate on offering value to your site visitors then people will tell others and before you know it your loyal followers will help generate traffic for you simply by word of mouth!

Another useful and practical article.
I’d love some feedback on this:
I’m a psychotherapist building an online presence, currently applying to be my city’s Mental Health examiner on Examiner.com. If I’m accepted, am I better off writing for Examiner, or article marketing to drive traffic back to my blog?
BTW, I found your blog through MyBlogGuest.
Hi Jacki, if you can do both then that would be ideal. If I had to choose though I’d say Examiner.com would be a better use of your time.
