When you have written your ebook, you have only done half the job. To make any sales, you will need to promote your ebook so it is visible to potential buyers. Fortunately, there are many ways you can do this without spending any money.

Let’s look at some low cost ways of getting publicity for your new ebook.

1.    Article Marketing
Write articles on the same niche as your ebook, and submit them to article directories such as www.ezinearticles.com with a well written bio box at the end. The bio box should have more information about you and your expertise, and invite readers to visit your sales page. These articles can be used by others as website content or included in a mail out to their mailing list, and your bio box will go along for the ride. This is one way you can promote your ebook to people in the same niche, who are more likely to buy.

2.    Press Releases
It won’t cost you anything to write and submit a press release to a free press release website such as www.free-press-release.com. When your press release is picked up by website owners, it will then encourage visitors to your site.

3.    Guest Posting on Blogs

This is a great way of presenting yourself as an expert in your niche. Most blog owners would appreciate a well written article on their niche, and would be happy to promote your ebook in the introduction or the footnote to your article. Do a Google search for blogs in your niche, and ask the blog owners if they’d like a guest post in exchange for a link back to your sales page. This is a particularly effective way to promote your ebook because you are targeting people who are already interested in your niche.

4.    Forum Signatures
There are forums on virtually any topic, so you should be able to find a few that relate to the subject of your ebook. Before you start to promote your ebook in a forum, spend some time there and contribute something of value. Offer advice, answer questions and be helpful. When you eventually put a link to your ebook in your signature, you’ll have some credibility and you won’t be looked on as someone who is just trying to spam the forum for sales.

5.    Joint Ventures and Affiliate Programs
This is a very efficient way of selling your ebook. You will offer a website owner a commission for any copies of your book that they sell from their site. Look for websites in your niche that have plenty of traffic, or have lots of comments after each blog post.  Some of these websites may also have a signup box for the site owner to build a mailing list, and you may be able to get a mention in their email newsletter. Offer at least 50% commission for any sales; this may seem like a lot but these are sales you wouldn’t otherwise make and therefore income you wouldn’t otherwise have. It has to be worth the site owner’s time to promote your ebook.

6.    Build Your Own Mailing List
When someone purchases your ebook, invite them to join your notification list so you can let them know when you have a new ebook for sale. You can then build a list of people who have purchased from you, and who know that you produce a quality product. It’s easier to sell to an existing customer than it is to find a new one!

It is often more work to promote your ebook than it was to write it in the first place, but it’s an essential part of generating income and building relationships that will lead to further sales in the future.
