If you’re one of the many people who are keen to earn money working from home, then selling web property might be of interest to you. If you’ve never built or sold web property before then at first glance it might seem a little too overwhelming to even begin, but please don’t be intimidated by it, it’s really not rocket science.
To learn the very basics of building a site and selling it for quick cash I’ve written an ebook that you can download for free here.
The thing with selling web property is there are so many different models you could follow, it’s easy to get confused about which path to take. You can end up spending all your time trying to understand everything and looking for the perfect system before you begin. The best thing you can do though is to actually build a basic site and put it up for auction, using this as a type of learning experience to build your confidence.
I was fortunate enough to start out selling sites with a partner, and we laughed our way nervously through the first sale together. It was very rewarding to have completed our first sale although still nerve wracking. It wasn’t long though before I got the confidence to sink my teeth into virtual real estate development and researched the market in depth.
I’m sure my QuikCash Convertor ebook will help you gain an understanding of how to build and sell a basic website, and that pretty much anyone can do it!

Hi Michelle,
I’ve been thinking about looking for/researching an added source of online income. I don’t want to rely too much on one of my main egg just in case things go pear-shaped there.
I’m gonna download a copy of your ebook. I think I might have done so some time before, not sure, but will have a read.
When it comes to flipping, at the forefront of my mind is file transfer. For that reason, I’d much rather work on static HTML sites than blogs. Do you happen to know what the success rate of static HTML sites are? Is it something you’d advise for or against?
Hi ebele
Edie asked some questions around WordPress and HTML too and my answers might interest you over at this post http://www.vredvoice.com/quick-ways-to-make-money.html/comment-page-1#comment-2704
The transfer of a blog is the number one fear of many would-be site flippers. It really isn’t as hard as you think. In the ebook I show step-by-step how to move a WordPress site, screenshots and all.
If you’re still concerned you can always outsource it. Lisa Smith has moved sites for people I know and she charges only $10, you can contact Lisa via her ad here http://www.vredvoice.com/marketplace/website-transfer.html
I don’t have any stats on the success rate of HTML sites but I can see clearly on Flippa.com that there are a lot of sites that are built on WordPress and are watched by many potential buyers. You can see in this tags list that AdSense and WordPress sites have the highest most-watched figures
Of course when the market is flooded with one type of site there is opportunity to stand out by offering something different. Beginners will be able to handle WordPress easily. If you build HTML sites then perhaps building them around something that will appeal to more experienced Internet marketers would be best. Clickbank-ready sites did at one time attract a lot of attention and high prices and they’re still reasonably popular from what I can tell, they do take work and or investment in terms of unique graphics though. Here is an example of a ClickBank ready site I sold http://www.homegardenhandbook.com/. I created the graphics myself for the sales page and affiliate tools. I also wrote the sales copy. It was a big job but one you can streamline if dedicated to it.
Site flipping really is more risky compared to some of the methods you cover in your blog in that there is no way of knowing exactly what will sell, you’re building on speculation. There are ways to gain custom orders though and becoming known in the Flippa marketplace certainly led to many custom requests for me.
Michelle, I was looking over the tags report on Flippa and I was wondering if WordPress has more buyers not because they are specifically looking for that CMS but because that’s the way so many sites are built.
That autoblog ranking was rather interesting, though. That’s definitely something that WordPress is designed for and would run circles around HTML in design efficiency. I don’t particularly like the idea of autoblogs but to each his own, I guess.
Can I just throw in a, “WOW!” for your Clickbank site? Your work is always stellar but that one really opened my eyes to new possibilities here. That is one model that I never even thought about doing and I was just on Clickbank the other day for about an hour looking for products to promote. Can I ask if the product is yours and if not, how did you decide to create a site featuring this product?
True Edie, most sites are built on WordPress these days. The point at Flippa is that HTML doesn’t appear in their tags list at all. I know most ClickBank-ready sites are built with straight HTML…the popularity of the ClickBank tag is not about HTML though, it’s the idea of buying a ready-to-go product I would think.
I guess WordPress is still thought to be somewhat of a selling point. I know of people trying to shift sites built on all kinds of weird and wonderful platforms and it can cause confusion for some buyers. The more potential buyers a site appeals to the more chance you’ll have of a successful auction. Of course with such a busy marketplace it’s not easy to stand out, and offering ‘just another WordPress blog’ isn’t going to always cut it. Finding a way to offer more, something unique etc, without working for peanuts is key.
I would never create or sell an auto-blog unless it was fully supported with a plethora of unique content alongside perhaps an auto Amazon plugin or the like. The popularity of auto-blogs is somewhat of an indication of what people want…auto riches, nothing new there.
Glad you liked the garden site. I had a partner write the ebook so it’s completely unique. The buyer is yet to add the payment page for ClickBank but hopefully she gets around to it soon as the product is solid. On a side note…the gardening niche wasn’t overly popular so it wouldn’t be the first niche I’d recommend anyone start with.
Thanks for your reply, Michelle. I think site flipping is worth exploring for me. If I don’t manage to sell them, I could always keep it and hopefully make money from it myself.
My nature is such that I flit from one idea to another and get bored easily, so I feel site flipping (if I master it) would suit me.
If I read your ebook and my mind still goes eek! about blog transfers, then it’s a relief to know that there’s someone you know that can do it for me. I trust your opinion, so would rather go for someone you recommend than look for someone myself.
That’s right ebele, if a site is built right then you can develop it yourself if it doesn’t sell.
There is an undersupply of quality established sites for sale too so if you’re able to stick with a site and develop it for a good six months, then auction it off you are very likely to have no trouble finding a buyer.
If you put a site up for sale and you need to transfer it let me know. I have some video tutorials that could help you in conjunction with the ebook instructions. If you ever got stuck you can always give me a shout out too. I had to do that with an online friend when I did in fact mess something up in my early days. Thank goodness he was patient and willing to help me on the spot…so I would pass that kind act on if you or someone else ever needed it.
